Ett begrepp jag inte hört förr, konstaterar Peter Wolodarski om ordet ‘babbe’. Samtidigt frågar sig en kompis på Facebook hur länge det kommer att dröja innan vi får se det i Svenska akademins ordlista.

Att ord och politik hör ihop blir sällan så tydligt som idag.

Språk och språkanvändning är något som är tätt sammanlänkat med kunskap, normer och värderingar. Genom att titta på vad människor säger, var de gör det, när de gör det och hur de gör det, så kan man också få en ökad förståelse för samhället och hur det utvecklas. Man kan säga att det finns en sorts språklig väv som vi alla är en del av, och som vi hela tiden är med och skapar när vi använder språket. Den här väven återverkar också på vad som är möjligt att säga (och tänka) i olika sammanhang.

Det finns en anledning till att så många svenskar idag skakar på huvudet och säger det ordet har jag aldrig hört förut. Det beror på att ‘babbe’ – åtminstone fram tills nu – är ett ord som förekommer i en väldigt specifik miljö, som de allra flesta av oss inte är en del av. En tidigare SD-medlem förklarar och placerar ordet i högerextrema sammanhang. Där skakar de inte på huvudet, för där har de hört ordet förut, oavsett om de själva använder det eller inte.

Tillgång till ord är den mest grundläggande nivån i den diskursiva väven. Den som inte har något ord för snön har svårt att prata om den, medan någon som vuxit upp i exempelvis Norrbotten sannolikt vet precis vad skillnaden mellan kramsnö, skare och puder är. På liknande sätt har lanseringen av ordet hen gjort det lättare att tala om människor som man inte vet könet på.

På nästa nivå kommer mer tydligt normativa aspekter in. För bara för att vi vet vad ett ord betyder så innebär inte det att vi tar det i vår mun. Politiskt laddade eller kränkande ord är något som många undviker. För att inte uppröra, för att inte drabbas av omgivningens reaktioner, eller för att det ‘känns fel’.

När någon ändå använder ord som har en mycket stark negativ laddning så innebär det att det i det specifika sammanhanget var möjligt att prata på just det sättet. Uttrycket fanns i personens vokabulär och eventuella normativa spärrar var inte tillräckligt starka för att ordet skulle undvikas.

Det var möjligt att tänka och använda ett ord som ‘babbe’.

Detta säger förstås något om personen som gjorde det. Men det säger kanske ännu mer om samhället som vi lever i, och det gör det ännu mer obehagligt att tänka på.

Idag lärde sig många svenskar ett för dem nytt ord. Nu återstår det att se om det kommer att användas av fler, och vad det i sin tur kommer att ge för reaktioner.
