Det finns ett samband mellan att se jämställdhetsproblem och könade strukturer, och att säga sig vara feminist.

De flesta som sätter feministetiketten på sig själv skulle nog säga att det sambandet går i riktningen att man ser problemen (för att de finns) och därför är man feminist. Men hyfsat ofta i debatter så stöter man på att någon hävdar att riktningen är den motsatta – att någon är feminist och därför ser problemen. När man hör det så är det oftast ett sätt att försöka underminera den andras position - du ser bara sånt där för att du vill se det. Det är frustrerande att få kastat i ansiktet och är ett hyfsat effektivt sätt att tysta någon. Det är att säga problemen finns egentligen inte och du har en personlighet som skapar konflikter där inga finns (dumma dig).

När det sägs på det viset så är det så klart problematiskt.

Men är det därmed helt taget ur luften att säga att man ser jämställdhetsproblem för att man är feminist? Inte alls.

Däremot betyder det inte att man ‘bara ser det man vill se’. Vad det betyder är att man tränas att se mönster. Strukturer är ganska abstrakta och luddiga saker – det är svårt att sätta fingret på när/var/hur de verkar. Det betyder inte att de inte finns där, eller att de inte är viktiga. Bara att man ibland kan behöva någon form av ‘utbildning’ (t.ex. att diskutera eller läsa böcker om dem) för att lära sig att förstå dem.

Att man blir mer benägen att identifiera strukturella problem efter att ha fått träning i det, det är därför inte så konstigt. Det är ungefär som att man blir mer benägen att förstå derivator och integraler efter att man läst lite gymnasiematte.

  1. Luften går ur mig litegrann när jag tänker på hur lätt det är för vissa att utöva härskartekniker på andra. Jag kanske inte ser problem för att jag vill utan för att jag tyvärr måste. Att jag måste beror på att det aldrig blir en förändring på det som är ett problem. Om jag nu ser problem så betyder det ju att det finns oavsett om jag ville se det eller inte? Eller har jag fel nu?
    Det är ungefär som att påstå att förintelsen inte har ägt rum för att man inte orkar bry sig om att det faktiskt har hänt. Kunskap är ack så viktig oavsett vad det handlar om!

    • Absolut! Jag försöker ändå förstå att för många så är ‘strukturer’ till exempel så abstrakt att det lätt framstår som hittepå. Synsättet ‘jag ser det inte, alltså finns det inte’ är förstås inte rättfärdigat bara för det, men det är inte jättekonstigt att tänka så. Det man kan önska är ju dock att slutsatsen skulle bli en annan – ‘jag ser det inte, kanske borde jag försöka lära mig lite mer så att jag förstår vad det är de pratar om’…

  2. Tydligt och bra! För visst är det så. Först blir du feminist för att du kanske känner att “något är fel”, t.ex. kvinnor har lägre lön än män, kvinnor tar störst ansvar för barn, hus och hem, kvinnor tar mindre plats på jobbet… Men sedan, när du aktivt sätter dig in i vad feminism innebär så blir du förstås ännu bättre på att se strukturerna, din blick skärps. Det är som många genusvetare som till en början bara fokuserar på just mäns och kvinnors förhållningssätt till varandra, normen hur flickor och pojkar ska vara och se ut osv osv, men totalt missar att föra in ett transperspektiv eller som missar heteronormens betydelse i könandeprocessen – det kanske är något som kommer senare, och som gör ens analys ännu skarpare liksom.

    Håller med om att det där resonemanget att “du ser problem som inte finns” är rent förjäkligt, för då tar ju diskussionen slut. Det blir stopp, och du har liksom redan förintat mina argumentet. Hur ska vi kunna föra en rimlig, konstruktiv debatt då?
